Sustainability and environment
With the Wyssen cable crane, the timber is transported high up in the air, which has numerous advantages for the sustainable management and maintenance of forests that are difficult to access.
- Low impact on soil (no or very little disturbance of top soils, thus maintaining fertility and preventing erosion)
- No dragging of timber across the forest floor and through watercourses (streams and rivers), avoiding the negative effects often caused by the use of traditional forestry tractors.
- Straight access on long distances in steep and difficult terrain. An ecological and economic alternative to traditional forest roads that are expensive to build and maintain, and also scar the landscape.
- Using the Earth’s gravity for transporting heavy loads over long distances downhill, thus minimizing the use of fossil fuels and lubricant.
- The transportation of tree trunks through the air with the Wyssen cable crane prevents the destruction of seedlings and other vegetation along the cableway corridor and thus contributes to the natural regeneration of the forest.
